Recommended Activities

We understand you have limited time in Tahoe, so we wanted to include a list of our favorite restaurants, breweries, and activities along the lake. You can't go wrong with any of these choices!

East Shore:

  • Incline Village is about 20 miles from Stateline and, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful parts of Lake Tahoe (and believe us, there are plenty).
  • The most famous and picturesque beach there is Sand Harbor.
  • The best restaurant around is called the Lone Eagle (pricey but gorgeous waterfront dining).
  • Another great but more casual restaurant is named Jason’s (not entirely on the water, but pleasant ambiance). Jamie's dad used to go there after skiing for a stellar steak dinner.

North/West Shore:

  • Chamber's Landing, located along the west west shore, "where modern excellence and rustic Tahoe charm, align."
  • West Shore Café just across the street from Homewood Ski Resort. Lakefront dining at its finest.
  • Sunnyside is a summertime classic! Watch boats pull up to their docks for a quick lunch at this watering hole, and be sure to get the Hula Pie
  • Jakes on the Lake inside a small shopping mall called the Boatworks with lakefront views.  Sister restaurant of Sunnyside.
  • Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay — home of the famous Wet Woody drink!

Emerald Bay:

  • If you continue driving past the West Shore, you should check out Emerald Bay and the famous castle Vikingsholm (Jamie went there during field trips in elementary school). It’s a short walk/hike from the main road. Great for kids.
  • Also, check out Eagle Falls. Easy hike above Emerald Bay with gorgeous views.

On the South Shore:

  • The Beacon at Camp Richardson is a  local's favorite. Stop by for their signature Rum Runner and live music.
  • The Ice Cream Parlor at Camp Richardson. The line is often long but worth it since they give out the largest scoops around! You can also rent bikes near Camp Richardson and ride around on the bike paths.
  • Fallen Leaf Lake is very close to Camp Richardson (look up on Google maps). This is a smaller alpine lake. Very clear. All rocks. No sand. Arguably prettier than Lake Tahoe. Jamie had her first job at this lake working at the general store. It's also an access point for Mt. Tallac, an all-day hike. It's quite a rewarding experience if you are up to the challenge!
  • Lake Tahoe Aleworx is a super fun brewery/wine spot. You can pour your beer or any wine from the tap, and they often have live music outdoors.
  • South Lake Brewing Company, our favorite brewery in Tahoe. Located near the "Y" and close to Lake Tahoe Alweworx. This brewery was by two high school sweethearts Jamie went to high school with. Make sure to order the Fog Nozzle!
  • Sprouts Natural Cafe is a local's favorite! All locally-sourced ingredients at an affordable price.
  • The Hangar is Brett's favorite beer spot in Tahoe. They've got outside tents, games, and always a food truck on-site. They don't brew their own beers but carry a stellar collection of beers like Russian River's Pliny the Elder, and even Maine Beer Company's Another One.
  • Bert's Cafe is the local's go-to breakfast spot! Owned by our neighbors Marty and Bueno Kettleson, Bueno's has been a centerpiece of the Tahoe community for over 20 years.
  • Lakeside Beach House near Stateline. Right on the water. Great views and somewhat affordable prices. Jamie goes here multiple times when she's back home. Highly recommend visiting if the weather is nice (all outdoors). Also, a great place to watch the sunset.
  • Riva Grill (sister restaurant of Gar Woods). Located at Ski Run Marina. Close to several hotels and great for sunsets.
  • Heavenly Village includes several restaurants, a movie theater, a miniature golf course, and fire pits. If the Gondola is running, you should ride up to the vista point, which overlooks the lake.  A bit pricey, but worth it for the view!
  • Flatstick Pub located near Stateline, is an indoor putting course with an amazing selection of local beer. Great for groups.
  • Live at Lakeview is a free weekly concert series hosted from 4:30 – 8:30 pm at Lakeview Commons, in the heart of South Lake Tahoe. Every Thursday June 29th through August 31st, the event hosts live music and art on the beach, along with a variety of local merchants and delicious food options plus amphitheater style seating and breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe from the beer garden.
  • Edgewood Tahoe is the world-famous golf course, home to the Celebrity Golf Tournament, two amazing restaurants, and a superb lake view.
